Case Studies
Refinement of Residential Turf Risks
During the atrazine re-registration process, EPA identified concerns
regarding its use on homeowner lawns. Building upon information
found in the public literature, Ms. Rosenheck designed and gained
EPA approval to conduct an innovative study to refine children’s
nondietary exposure. Data generated from this study allowed for
granular formulations of atrazine to remain registered on residential
turf. This study design was later used by other registrants.
Helix® Seed Treatment
Study
During initial registration of thiamethoxam in 2000, EPA and PMRA
indicated the need to characterize worker exposure to Helix®
in seed treatment facilities. The study, conducted in Canada, was
the largest seed treatment exposure study ever conducted, with 93
full-day replicates. Ms. Rosenheck was a key team member involved
with the study conduct that eventually allowed for the registration
of Helix.
Diazinon® Lawn & Garden Replacement
Lambda-cyhalothrin was identified as a potential replacement for
diazinon®
in the homeowner lawn and garden market. Ms. Rosenheck was responsible
for providing the exposure and safety evaluations for lambda-cyhalothrin
which resulted in Spectracide®
Brands registering and selling lambda-cyhalothrin in their Triazicide®
consumer product line.
Continued Registration of Brodifacoum in Brazil
To satisfy new legislation regarding the safety of household chemicals
under Brazil’s ANVISA, Ms. Rosenheck conducted rodenticide
risk assessments for the entire Klerat, Ratak, and Ratex brand portfolio.
These assessments were approved, thus allowing sales of this important
tool for control of public health pests to continue.
Chlorothalonil®
Painter Exposure Study
Ms. Rosenheck was responsible for the design and implementation
of this novel exposure monitoring study conducted in California.
The purpose of this study was to generate exposure data on professional
painters handling latex and water-based paint containing the preservative
chlorothalonil®.
The data from this study allowed for the continued sales of chlorothalonil®
into this market.
